Camille McDonald a first generation American was born in New York City to two loving Jamaican parents. At the tender age of three her mother was taking Camille to a birthday party. Before putting her into the car she noticed that Camille had placed three velcro rollers in her hair and had bright red lipstick around her lips and all over her face! Frustrated but humored Camille’s Mom asked “Why did you do this?” Camille said “I have to be glamorous Mommy because I am going to be famous one day!”
Camille wears many hats such as Professional Model/ Spokesperson/ Humanitarian/ Cultural Ambassador and Writer/Producer of her exciting new reality television show. In May 2009 Camille completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising at the illustrious Howard University complimenting her minor in Fashion Design obtained at the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T)
In 2004, Camille reluctantly left Howard to participate in the hit reality television show America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) produced by Super Model and current Talk-show Host Tyra Banks. Cycle 2 of ANTM was a huge success and UPN’s highest rated series. The series was also the highest rated series on UPN’s successor network CW11. With her captivating, sassy, and spicy attitude, a Neilsen’s Rating and poll showed viewers picked Camille as one of the most memorable participant to date thus gaining increased notoriety for the networks and its sponsors. She was invited to Viacom’s “up fronts” and “press events” in order to attract key advertisers.
Backed by popular demand, Cycle 2 was televised in over 30 countries worldwide, including prominent U.S networks such as VH1, MTV,and most recently Oxygen in 2009. This increased exposure gave her another platform from which she continued a career in the fashion industry and became a vocal spokesperson on Social Issues and Humanitarian causes.
During ANTM, Miss. J, a world renowned run-way coach to the likes of cat walk diva Naomi Campbell, noticed Camille’s extraordinary Signature walk, quoting “float like a butterfly-sting like a bee, black girls always gotta give something extra!” approving of Camille's walk. The name “Miss Signature Walk” was then coined by fans because Camille fearlessly and confidently strutted down the cat-walk at a “go-see” proclaiming that “this is my Signature Walk and that's what is going to make me famous.” Indeed, that bold proclamation materialized as Camille instantly became a sought-after celebrity model.
Camille began winning model/ beauty contest in her early teens including but not limited to the Stephanie Gibbs Model Search in 1995. A year later she was crowned Miss Teen Florida 1996 as well as Miss Jamaica US 1st runner up in 1997.
In pursuit of philanthropic aspirations, Camille used her celebrity as a vehicle in the advancement of community and social issues by bringing light to problems that were important to her. Camille's first endeavor was to shed light on the fight against HIV/Aids among the youth especially in the Caribbean.
Over the years, she has raised thousands of dollars, which has been used for educational and infrastructural projects throughout the Caribbean. Over the last five years, Camille has raised and personally contributed funds for several other needy causes ranging from children’s education to hurricane relief projects.
Camille moved to Europe and signed with the prominent Modeling Agency Major Model Management (Milan), shooting editorials, signature walking down runways for designers such as Escada, and lingerie giant Wolfords of London to name a few.
After returning to the United States, Camille began working with Major Model Management(New York), where she continued to secure run way shows, print ads, billboard campaigns and magazine layouts ranging from Azure Denim to D-Squared as well as been a Fit-Model for Marithe Francois Girbaud. Camille has shot for publications such as Glamour Magazine, Women Wear Daily (WWD), and W Magazine. Camille's most memorable internship has been with fashion guru Diane Von Furstenberg(DVF) where she learned a great deal about marketing.
Camille’s endless zeal and passion for the business of fashion and entertainment will continue to grow as she has accomplished her goal of completing her college degree. Camille needed time to heal from her dad’s untimely passing. She is more determined to claim her niche in the world of fashion, beauty, and entertainment.
She is more matured and fabulous than ever, continuing with her dreams, inspiring and touching the lives of others through her continued work as a philanthropist, humanitarian, and good-will ambassador. Most recently she has participated in the Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Camps fundraising gala and soon to be TV show about fashion, love, culture.
